Position Overview

This part-time role focuses on emergent and urgent interpretations during the blocks you choose to cover, from late-morning daytime windows through overnight. You read in the same environment full-time physicians use, with PACS, RIS, dictation, reporting, and operational support in one place, plus fast access to subspecialist colleagues for consults. Rotations can be structured around recurring availability, which makes the role easy to layer alongside existing clinical or academic commitments.

How Part-Time Remote Radiology Works at vRad

Part-time at vRad fits the many reasons radiologists pick up supplemental work: trying out teleradiology, adding income alongside another practice, easing toward retirement, or simply building in more breathing room. You commit to recurring blocks that suit you and read the same emergent and urgent studies, on the same platform and support, as the full-time staff. You’re never reading alone: instant peer and subspecialist consults are built into the platform, with the ability to transfer cases to colleagues if clinically pragmatic. When your block ends, it’s done.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret emergent diagnostic imaging studies remotely
  • Communicate critical findings to referring physicians
  • Participate in peer review
  • Collaborate with operational and IT support teams
  • Maintain accurate, compliant documentation
  • Deliver timely, high-quality interpretations

Typical Case Mix

Primarily emergent/ED studies, with more routine studies appearing in daytime blocks. Approximate distribution: CT 41-43%, X-Ray 35-37%, CTA 10%, Ultrasound 8%, MRI 4%.

Compensation

vRad’s compensation is transparent and productivity-based, and part-time radiologists read on the same published rates as everyone else. You’re paid by vRad’s Work Unit, calibrated to the time and effort each study takes, and can take advantage of the same shift differentials and bonus-rate shifts (nights, weekends, holidays, extra shifts). This part-time role is an independent contractor engagement; estimated annual compensation runs $200,000-$350,000+, depending on the blocks you work.

Qualifications

  • MD or DO
  • ABR or AOBR board certified (board eligible if completing training)
  • Eligible for U.S. licensure; multi-state licensure a plus
  • Fellowship not required
