The State of Radiology Reporting

Dictation Remains the Core of Radiology Reporting

AI report drafting is coming, and it is exciting. It is also early. Very few AI drafting products are FDA-cleared today, and dictation will remain the core of every radiologist’s workday for the foreseeable future.

The vRad Platform is ready for both. Radiologists get an advanced reading and reporting environment today, refined over 20+ years and currently used by 700+ radiologists. And because the worklist, viewer, dictation, and AI are one system, new capabilities are woven into the workflow, not bolted on.

Radiology Reporting FAQ

Radiology reporting software is the system a radiologist uses to create the radiology report. The vRad Platform includes AI priors, voice recognition, AI report formatting, AI impressions, alerts for required language such as MIPS measures, and more.

Structured reporting organizes a radiology report into consistent sections, typically by organ system or body region, so referring physicians can find each finding in the same place in every report. On The vRad Platform, radiologists dictate in any order and native AI organizes the findings by body region, so the report is structured without the radiologist changing their search pattern.

Native AI on The vRad Platform removes manual steps from reporting. It prepares relevant priors before the case opens, organizes dictated findings by body region, generates the impression from those findings for the radiologist’s review, and surfaces MIPS and other alerts before signing. The radiologist reviews and signs every report.

On The vRad Platform, radiologists dictate in any style they prefer using macros, negatives only, or positive findings in whatever order matches their own search pattern. Native AI categorizes each finding by body region into a consistently formatted report. The radiologist does not read into a template, and voice commands can drive the image viewer and worklist while the microphone stays on.

Very few products are FDA-cleared for AI report drafting—where the report is generated without dictation. Radiologist dictation remains the core of radiology reporting. As new technologies become available, The vRad Platform is structured to add them so practices do not need to bolt on separate products later.

Voice recognition is built into The vRad Platform, with no lengthy voice-profile training and no separate dictation application.

vRad knows radiologists who read on The vRad Platform prefer it to other systems they’ve used because we participate annually in the Gallagher national benchmarking survey. In 2026, 98% of 311 responding radiologists reported vRad technology is more advanced than at other practices. 99% reported vRad is implementing the right technologies to improve patient care.

AI automates radiology reporting by streamlining the creation, organization, and quality review of reports. Using technologies such as speech recognition, natural language processing, and workflow automation. vRad AI helps increase radiologist efficiency by up to 40%.
