Position Overview

This role covers diagnostic imaging interpretation across a broad mix of hospitals and health systems nationwide. Depending on the shift you choose, the work ranges from primarily emergent STAT and urgent studies on evening and overnight blocks to a balanced mix of emergent and routine studies during the day. All reading happens in one environment that brings together PACS, RIS, dictation, reporting, and operational support, with fast access to subspecialist colleagues for consults anytime. The workflow is built to reduce administrative friction and keep the focus on reading.

Full-time radiologists at vRad read from home on a 7-on/7-off or 7-on/14-off rotation, choosing days, evenings, or overnights to match the schedule and case mix they want. When a shift ends, it ends. The shared worklist means there’s no personal backlog to clear and no pressure to stay for one more case, while additional shifts are always available if you want to read more. You’re never reading alone: instant peer and subspecialist consults are built into the platform, with the ability to transfer cases to colleagues if clinically pragmatic.

Responsibilities

• Interpret emergent and routine diagnostic imaging studies remotely
• Communicate critical findings to referring physicians
• Participate in peer review
• Collaborate with operational and IT support teams
• Maintain accurate, compliant documentation
• Deliver timely, high-quality interpretations

Typical Case Mix

Varies by shift. Overnight and evening blocks are primarily emergent/ED; daytime blocks are a balanced mix of emergent and routine studies. Approximate distribution across shifts: CT 41-45%, X-Ray 32-37%, CTA 10-11%, Ultrasound 8%, MRI 3-4%.

Compensation

vRad’s compensation is transparent and productivity-based, and every radiologist reads on the same published rates regardless of tenure. You’re paid by vRad’s Work Unit, calibrated to the time and effort each study takes (which also removes the incentive to cherry-pick), and you can track your earnings in real time. There are no minimum reading quotas; shift rates are published and consistent, with higher pay for nights, weekends, and holidays, and a bonus rate if you choose to pick up extra shifts, so your income stays in your control. For this role, estimated annual compensation runs $450,000-$900,000+, depending on the shifts you work.

Qualifications

• MD or DO
• ABR or AOBR board certified (board eligible if completing training)
• Eligible for U.S. licensure; multi-state licensure a plus
• Fellowship not required
