Reducing Turnaround Time for 180,000+ Critical Patients Annually.
– FOUR STRATEGIES –
Average Turnaround Time Reduction
Four strategies—including AI algorithms—are applied to each arriving study for immediate prioritization.
High priority studies are distributed to all available radiologists and must be read next.
Saving precious time, critical findings detected in the dictation by natural language processing automatically trigger a radiologist call to the referring physician.
vRad AI models automatically prioritize 14% of all critical findings entering our system, detecting pathologies such as intracranial hemorrhage, pulmonary embolism, and epidural lesions.
Stroke protocol orders automatically receive our highest priority, resulting in turnaround times under 7 minutes on average—even through periods of peak demand. Over 250 certified stroke centers nationwide trust our services, with more than 130,000 stroke studies and 8,700 CT perfusion studies interpreted annually.
This unique workflow automatically separates images into anatomical groups—enabling multiple radiologists to read neuro, body, and extremity studies simultaneously for faster results. Trauma protocol turnaround times consistently average under 12 minutes.
vRad uses decades of historical data to prioritize procedures most likely to contain critical findings. This data-driven approach has improved turnaround times for half of all confirmed critical findings.
Joshua Morais, MD | vRad Clinical Chief of Neuroradiology
Critical findings are time-sensitive pathologies that demand immediate verbal results. Leveraging 20+ years of emergency radiology expertise, vRad identifies a broader range of critical findings than standard guidelines—helping more patients get rapid care.
vRad’s AI also detects critical findings in non-emergent imaging, when scans are ordered for unrelated reasons. Each year, it prioritizes 14,000+ cases, including 1,200 intracranial hemorrhages, 200 pulmonary emboli, and 20 aortic dissections—often accelerating care by hours compared to standard, non-emergent turnaround times.

vRad AI software does not provide diagnostic or treatment information or recommendations. Studies are not flagged for the radiologist in any way to indicate that an AI model has identified a likelihood of the presence of any pathology. AI functionality is intended for prioritization and quality assurance, and is not intended to triage, diagnose, treat, mitigate, or cure any disease or condition. Accuracy, recall, precision, and false negatives vary by AI model.
