vRad’s First Read Initiative helps bring cancer screening to underserved areas

During this years Breast Cancer Awareness Month, donations will support the RAD-AID USA Women’s Health Access Initiative

(EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn.) Oct. 20, 2021 – The First Read Initiative (FRI), through the hard work and donations of vRad Radiologists, has partnered with RAD-AID to support the RAD-AID USA Women’s Health Access Initiative. First Read Initiative was founded in 2018 by a vRad radiologist determined to build bridges that give more patients access to life-saving diagnostic tools and insights. FRI’s donations will be helping to provide free 3D mammograms at the selected underserved RAD-AID sites throughout the US and to fund patient navigators and educational materials on breast/cervical cancer screening.

RAD-AID USA Women’s Health Access Initiative is an expanding project that helps women in underserved areas throughout the country gain access to breast and cervical cancer screening. RAD-AID has joined forces with Hologic Project Health Equality (PHE), The Black Women’s Health Imperative (BWHI) and the National Alliance for Hispanic Health in this important life-saving mission to improve access to care for women of all races.

The Women’s Health Access Initiative will also support new 3D tomography machines that will be installed in strategic underserved centers throughout the US. This new technology will improve disease detection and reduce mortality with support from community health centers, nurse navigators and mobile health vans.
